Dr. Jess Venner is a dynamic presenter, ancient historian, and writer whose accessible and compelling storytelling has captivated millions across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram through her hit channel Life in the Past Lane. Known for her ability to bring ancient history vividly to life for modern audiences, Jess was nominated for the Future Presenter Award at the 2024 New Voice Awards and named one of the National Gallery’s 200 Creators in its landmark bicentenary celebration.

Her debut non-fiction book, The Lost Voices of Pompeii was spotlighted as one of the most anticipated titles at the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair and is set for publication in Spring 2026 (UK & N.America: HarperCollins; Japan: Diamond).

Jess is a leading expert on Pompeii and Herculaneum and an award-winning scholar. She was awarded a competitive scholarship to pursue her PhD in Classics, Ancient History, and Archaeology at the University of Birmingham (completed 2022), and her research has since been featured in top academic journals and delivered through international lectures from London to San Francisco.

She currently holds a post as an Early Career Research Associate at the Institute of Classical Studies, and in 2024, she was elected an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in recognition of her contribution to the field. The same year, she was awarded the prestigious Rome Award by the British School at Rome and appointed a Trustee of The Herculaneum Society.
