Beya Kabelu is a BAFTA-nominated London-based filmmaker who specialises in documentary storytelling. His films are raw, intimate, socially conscious, and visually distinctive - often blending nonfiction and narrative techniques, always underpinned by journalistic rigour.
His first producer credit, Channel 4’s How to Survive a Dictator, earned him a BAFTA nomination. He went on to write and direct on Amazon’s premium documentary series Four Kings, partnering with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, who served as Executive Producer.
Beya was the sole producer of Gary, a feature-length documentary about the life and death of child star Gary Coleman for NBC’s Peacock, and later collaborated with Oscar-nominated director Sam Pollard on Tutu, a Universal Pictures feature documentary tracing the life and legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu - which he developed, produced, and sold to Universal. Most recently, he served as Series Producer (and Director of episode 2) on Amsterdam Narcos for Sky Documentaries - his first docudrama series.
