These include the Royal wedding in Windsor, an account of Oxford University’s links to Georgia’s independence struggle, the UK’s battle with Covid-19 and a feature about Katie Melua’s mental health challenges. For all these stories, I did the research, planned the logistics, wrote scripts, filmed, edited (using Adobe Pro) and uploaded as a ready TV package for broadcast. For the first 6 years of my career in journalism I worked as a news reporter for the 9pm TV news programme “Courier”. My typical daily work routine consisted of getting assignments in the morning, researching stories for the next few hours, contacting interviewees and agreeing locations and times for filming with them. In the afternoon I would travel to the agreed locations with a cameraman to film interviews and relevant shots for the story. Coming back to the office, I would write a story and edit it in the last 3-4 hours of working day for broadcast on the 9 o’clock main news programme.Sometimes assignments would require me and my team (cameramen and driver) to travel to far and remote regions of Georgia and come back the same day, while researching and writing a story on the journey to and from the location in the car. Never in my 12+ years of working experience have I missed my deadline. My current role as a foreign correspondent gives me more flexibility around researching and planning news/feature items. Having experienced the frenzy of news production, this new arrangement feels more measured. It allows me to do deeper study and more thorough preparation around news topics before visiting a shooting location. In this setting it is easier to meet deadlines and to be fully satisfied with the quality of research and overall work.On the whole, I am accustomed to working with deadlines and I always work within the timeframe I am given.
