I am a Biological Science Graduate currently working as a COVID-19 Supervisor in a busy medical laboratory. This is a rewarding job and I am incredibly grateful to have work during the pandemic, however if the pandemic has taught me anything it is that life is unpredictable, and short. Therefore, I have decided to pursue my long term ambition of working in television.I am currently London based, however I'm willing to relocate and hold a full UK driving licence.Below I have listed my key transferable skills which ensure that I am an excellent candidate for a variety of roles in this industry.Communication and organisational skills:My past experiences of working in a multidisciplinary team has refined my communication skills, which I appreciate is integral to the delivery of a high quality of service. To me, good communication often stems from being organised, and the combination of the two has enabled me to carry out work successfully and within deadlines. An example of this was during my time at university. There, I was elected to be social secretary at the student radio station, with my peers entrusting me to organise events for its 300 members due to the strength of my interpersonal and organisational skills. I carried out this voluntary role whilst studying for my degree, for which I achieved a First, demonstrating my ability to remain focused, organised and stick to strict deadlines when working on multiple tasks. This demonstrates a couple of important points. My role as social secretary shows that I am adept at working in a team, while my grades proves that I can work independently, too. I believe these attributes prove that I am a self-motivated individual who can work both within a team and with minimal supervision, completing work to a high standard.Customer Service and Interpersonal Skills:I have ample experience of working in customer service, from which I have developed impeccable customer service skills as well as learning to communicate with people from all walks of life. I particularly enjoyed my time in customer service as it allowed me to utilise my interpersonal skills to ensure customers felt comfortable and happy. For example, on one occasion one of my colleagues was unnecessarily rude to a customer, so once the customer was seated, I went and apologised for my colleagues behaviour and offered a complimentary drink - this intervention left the customer feeling more relaxed and welcome. My happy disposition means people feel comfortable approaching me for help, this coupled with
my customer service skills, means colleagues and clients will have a good experience with me as their runner.Experience of creating content for different audiences:I regularly wrote for my student newspaper and presented a current affairs show on my student radio station. These shows and articles had to appeal to students whilst my experience producing hospital radio shows required me to appeal to an elderly demographic. I received great audience participation and feedback, demonstrating my adaptability and strong understanding on how to serve different audiences. Moreover, through working on radio I was able to draw similarities between how radio and television serves audiences. Both provide audiences the chance to feel like they are part of a community; they bring people together and give the opportunity to learn, discover and be entertained. These parallels between television and radio have contributed in increasing my desire to work in television so that I can play a part in bringing entertainment and education to others.Evidence of good fact checking and research skills:I have abundant evidence of good fact checking and research skills. For my degree I had to find my own resources and cross reference facts, a skill which is essential in science. I am patient and determined with a scrupulous eye for detail and accuracy ,needed when working in science. Studying Biology also taught me the importance of forming concise and succinct summaries and these skills will be useful for completing tasks to a high standard.Furthermore, I am adept at carefully and accurately following written instructions, protocols and methods. I invariably strive to work hard and I am motivated to learn and grow as an individual. As a result, I will be eager to take on extra responsibilities, learn new skills and generally integrate as much as possible into the team so that I can make the most of my time, whilst delivering a service to the best of my ability.Thank you for taking the time to view my profile.
