* Capt. GUI GARCIA Gui Garcia is an award-winning imagemaker and visual storyteller whose notable career spans more than 40 years traveling the world by land and sea photographing and filming the wonders of the natural world, its people and places. Gui started using an underwater camera system at age 16 when working as a research assistant to Professor Victor Almada at the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada (Institute of Applied Psychology) in his native Portugal, using an underwater camera to document fish behavior. He emigrated to the United States at age 19, where he became a scuba instructor and USCG-licensed captain. His aquatic and maritime training helped further his filming career, landing him work with The Cousteau Society and as an assistant to director/cinematographer Bob Talbot filming sharks, whales and dolphins off the Hawaiian Islands. Most recently he worked as DP on a natural history documentary series about Australia, Magical Land of OZ, produced by Northern Pictures. Gui’s natural curiosity as a filmmaker and storyteller makes him at home in any environment. He has filmed the lives of Bedouins in the Sinai Desert, Native Americans of the USA’s Great Plains, and tribal leaders of Papua New Guinea’s remote, seldom-visited Sepik River. He has spent hours on the seafloor of Lisbon Harbor documenting a 14th-century shipwreck excavation conducted by Lisbon’s National Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Together with his wife Cathryn Gui owns C2G2Productions and has produced several award-winning short films set in the undersea realm. They including Transformation, the story of a woman’s intimate love of sharks, and The Mirage: A Pandemic Dream, which illustrates an ocean-lover’s longing for the sea while quarantining during the Covid-19 pandemic.
