I have been in BBC children’s education just over a year but have been at the BBC for nearly 4 years. I have had the opportunity to create online content for BBC homepage and for our campaigns page. I have been creating and delivering workshops for kids aged 12 – 15 years old and alongside that I had to create numerous quizzes which were created in a quiz making engine called riddle. We were the most popular campaign on the homepage and one my quizzes has been played over 35.000 times and is still building numbers each day. Keeping track of everyone’s work and updating spread sheets, I used a lot of smart sheet, excel, google docs and drop box along with the BBC shared drive. I have recently moved to a different team (Own it) where I have been managing the own it page on pop jam. I have been creating posts which are aimed at 8 – 12-year-olds using photoshop. Previous to this role i was a content producer for the BBC youtube team where i was managing the cbbc/cbeebies youtube channels editing, creating content and scheduling.I am currently a researcher but i am wanting to step up to assistant producer. I am on the BBC Own It team, which is an online app aimed at kids aged between 7 - 12. I am currently managing the Own It page on the app PopJam where i create posts on photoshop, which i schedule to go out 3 times a week.Being a person of colour and working at the BBC has been so rewarding as i have been able to share my personal experiences. Sharing ideas and bringing fresh new talent is what my main aim has been since a lot of my previous roles always had elements of casting. It is so important that the Tv broadcasters/companies promote diversity and cultures from all over the world. making everybody feel included. I want to be able to see more diverse talent on TV and have an input into the creation and casting of new up and coming shows and talent. I feel it is really important for my daughters and others to see themselves on TV.I graduated from the University of Salford with a 2.1 in 2017 while working as a Runner and Researcher for ITV and BBC, where I gained a wide range of skills in studio-based programme making and live TV shows. I have also presented a 6 - part radio series for Reform Radio and I am a part of a creative collective which was formed from a group of us who work together at the BBC. We have produced a documentary while in lockdown and I also have created a short documentary about kids being in lockdown. As part of the collective we also have a podcast. The past six months have been a challenging time working from home and home schooling my children who are 10 and 6. Being able to be a part of a collective, create short documentaries, home school my children and still do my job all from home has strengthen my multitasking skills and it has been so rewarding and I have gained so much from it. I started at the BBC in 2019 where I was a Researcher for The Unscripted Development Team for CBeebies and CBBC. Developing fresh ideas for new up and coming shows and searching for new talent on a regular basis. I was in this role for nearly 18 months and I have developed a mass amount of knowledge and brushed up on so many skills i.e. premier pro, self shooting, working with children, liaising with agents, writing up proposals and planning/delivering brainstorms. Working on the badge team for Blue Peter has been so rewarding, being able to keep children happy while they are in lockdown and not able to go to school. It has made me so happy reading and replying to their letters and sending out their badges. This industry has given me so much passion and drive to want to work right across all departments and share my knowledge and creativity.I am fortunate that although I have two children, I do have a lot of back-up support, which is useful as I know working in TV requires long hours but I haven’t let that deter me from doing I what I really want to do. I am a hard worker and very passionate about what I do, I work well on my own but better as part of a team as a million ideas are better than one in my opinion, and it’s important especially in production to be able to work with lots of different people and take on varied ideas every day.I graduated from the University of Salford with a 2.1 in 2017 while working as a Runner and Researcher for ITV and BBC, where I gained a wide range of skills in studio-based programme making and live TV shows.
