Dear Talent Manager Colleagues,

Nice to meet you :) My name is Juliën, I am a Palaeozoologist, Presenter, Actor, Comedian and Scicommer. It is my passion to blend science with storytelling, with the aim of increasing public awareness of extinct species in order to protect and conserve extant ones.

At current I am based at the University of Cambridge as a Public Engagement/Media Fellow and Postdoc Researcher in Palaeozoology. However, I do not plan to continue working in academia for the rest of my life. 

I have often applied my multidisciplinary background to a young audience as STEM mentor, zoo workshop educator, museum guide and host of live events. But I have also taught academic units such as ‘The Planet Earth’ to adult University audiences. During my Ph.D., I have won multiple science communication competitions targeted at the largest possible audience, regardless of age, educational level or cultural background. I gained additional technical skills in different editing and production software packages through developing of my own scicomm videos, as well as audio-visual knowledge during weekly live events as DJ and Assistant Manager ‘Stage and Production’, in the hospitality and entertainment sector. As such, besides scientific knowledge on a wide variety of extant and extinct wildlife, I have also gained essential technical and management skills for storytelling.

Given all these experiences, in both field and studio-settings, I trained myself in all aspects of storytelling and public engagement, often in high pressure environments. Although I am aware of the competitive nature the industry of Documentary Filmmaking entails, I genuinely believe I am ready for the next step in my career. I believe I could contribute to the development of new, entertaining, informative and inspiring content for any productions related to prehistory and wildlife, due to my unique background. I consider myself a reliable, responsible and flexible team player. I am bursting with ideas that I cannot wait to pitch and I look forward offering any interested company the full scope of my skills and training across academia, media, education and entertainment. Above all, I am very eager to further develop myself as Documentary Researcher/Presenter/Filmmaker. It would be a dream come true. If desirable, I am also happy to work as a Runner.
