Barny Revill is an award-winning series producer / director, show runner and commercials director who has made films for the likes of the
BBC,
Netflix,
Nat Geo,
ITV and
Discovery. He was brought into
Silverback Films to take a creative lead on one of the biggest non-fiction commissions ever made by
Netflix –
Life On Our Planet, helping it secure multiple awards and a
primetime Emmy nomination. He has just completed a yet to be released
feature-doc for a major streamer, as well as co-producing an independent feature-doc
Her Shark Story, and acting as a script-consultant on another feature-doc for
Disney+ Guardians of the Galapagos.
Barny’s career in television began 25years ago when he started work as a researcher for
Partridge Films in the UK. In just a couple of years he was producing and directing films for their award-winning series
World of Wildlife, and ever since he has strived to make a broad range of programmes – directing a series on
Ancient Egypt for
Nat Geo, following an expedition up
Mount Everest for
Discovery and filming under the
North Pole on a nuclear submarine for the
BBC. He produced and directed the premiere episode of
River Monsters for
Animal Planet and has worked with a diverse range of hosts and high-profile celebrities for nearly all the major global networks.
Alongside his documentary work, Barny has also directed a variety of
commercials,
drama docs,
unstructured reality series and a
3D movie. His films have won numerous awards and clips from them regularly go viral. He made the most watched video on Animal Planet’s YouTube channel, has several videos in the BBC’s most watched list on
YouTube, and in total his videos have
over 200million views and rising.
He returned to the
BBC in 2017 to be the Series Director of
Earth from Space with Chiwetel Ejiofor for the BBC and PBS, before joining
Silverback Films to work with
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and
Industrial Light & Magic on the four-year production of the
Netflix series
Life On Our Planet. His latest feature-docs have been created while working in collaboration with his own independent production company –
Furious Panda Ltd., and have the unique perspective of being emotional, human narratives that take place in some of the more extreme parts of our natural world.
