These have provided me with a number of skills, a keen eye for detail and a calm, efficient response to problem solving tasks. I have developed acute organisational protocols through many admin heavy positions and have consistently been excited to bring in my creative expertise and dedication to every role.
I have been a freelance filmmaker, videographer and photographer for 5 years. Through this I have trained my eye and gained lots of knowledge on digital technology and high-quality, effectual media output. I produce film and photographic works for artists, theatre makers, dancers musicians and commercial clients as well as writing and directing self-led projects. These range from trailers, shorts, projection mapping projects for immersive theatre, music video and commercial advertising. I am very comfortable and experienced directing a room to meet the quality I desire and managing all production requirements for the clients.
I work as a freelance lighting and projections designer and production manager for theatres, workshops and studios, managing the delivery of building and construction works to stages, rigging, designing and operating the lighting and sound equipment, acting as a facilitator of creative writing workshops and production managing performances and tours. These roles demand a highly efficient, organised and adaptable personality that can balance a number of varied tasks with ease with design and quality standards consistantly exceeding expectations.
While working as an Art Technician I managed studios, stock and departmental budgets while also delivering tailored workshops and developing new, exciting resources for the staff and students including 3D graphics, animation, design and printing, CMYK screen printing, pottery, casting etc. I thoroughly enjoy exploring pedagogical approaches and continue to teach as a visiting lecturer in Newcastle University’s Architecture Department.
Until recently I have been the Director of The Occasion Collective (TOC) and have now rebranded as oat-studios. Through TOC I have produced cultural activities and arts events in the North East and beyond for seven years. In 2013 I founded the enterprise that was born from a desire to forge interdisciplinary collaborations between creative practitioners. We developed a number of events and festivals that combined live music, exhibitions, dance performances, film screenings and workshops. We occupied community cinemas, empty office blocks, car parks, heritage sites and galleries for our events aiming to make the work accessible, build audiences and provide us with positive creative challenges. Most notably TOC was commissioned by the Laing Art Gallery and The Newbridge Project. This commission brought together visual artists, set designers, animators, dancers, actors and musicians for an exhibition that responded to the Laing's abstract collection utilising installation, VR, animation, interactive sound sculpture, a series of performances, a film-shoot and workshops. Through a proficient marketing strategy, the exhibition engaged a 19,242 live audience and an incalculable online audience. The results of this were presented at a conference on new technology at The Baltic hosted by It’s Nice That and Google and I was invited to speak at an emerging technology conference about this project. We were then commissioned by Durham Castle in which I directed and produced works that included a live AV promenade experience comprised of film installations and a live musical composition that spread throughout the castle, a publication and a film screening of original work.
