Claire headed up a complex and wide-ranging slate comprising more than 50 international documentary films when she took me on to develop an Archaeology series from scratch. As Covid hit, we found ourselves in a large team working from home. Staffing a diverse and inclusive environment is very important to Claire. She was mindful of the team members’ mental health and quick to identify systems to keep communication strong and the work flowing across such a vast project. As an editorial lead she has a journalist’s eye for detail and an instinct for a good story. So she knows how to ask the searching questions to keep us on track. While as a manager she is confident enough to keep the big picture in mind and trust her team to deliver their best. She also knows not to take herself too seriously and how to have fun while delivering first class results to exacting commissioners.
Claire is one of the most inspirational executive producers in the British television industry. She is passionate about the programmes she makes, respectful of the contributors involved and incredibly supportive of the production team around her. As a director I received exceptional encouragement from Claire as well as her expert guidance while filming an ambitious project in one of the most remote parts of the world in temperatures of -30 degrees. Not only did she equip me with the best team to support me on the ground, she made sure no stone was unturned to ensure the safety of the crew without compromising the shoot. Since working with Claire we have become great friends and I hope to collaborate professionally with her again, in the near future.
Claire is a creative, innovative and tenacious producer who delivers in Factual, Factual Entertainment and Constructed Reality.
Brilliant at producing intelligent stories told in original ways by the surprising and unusual characters she always finds.
Claire is very strong in the edit and her work is characterised by great humour, warmth and authenticity.
A fantastic leader - she inspires her teams to go the extra mile. She has a great eye for fresh new talent both on and off the screen - Claire has mentored some of the best young producers and directors coming through in the industry today.
She has a huge attention to detail, second to none with regards compliance and editorial integrity.
Always first in and last out, Claire is passionate about every production she undertakes.
I've worked with Claire multiple times during my TV career so far, and have always been inspired by her work ethic, her eye for detail, and perhaps most by her journalistic investigative nature - I've seen how she never misses a beat with developing storylines and is quick to foresee and tackle obstacles before they happen, whether that involves tricky contributors or filming in challenging locations.
I remember first working for Claire as a researcher on a BBC Three series about young people and addictions. This involved filming contributors with complex health issues and was where I first saw Claire's sharp intuitive nature in full-force, as she flagged various pitfalls before they occurred. On this show, and in times since, I have found her to be a hugely encouraging and personable Exec as well as someone who is motivating and willingly interactive with big production teams.
From production to development, I've known Claire to be clear and direct, whether that be developing a BBC drama about a real-life crime story to a Channel 5 series which saw teenagers immersed with tribes in far-flung locations abroad.
Aside from her role as Executive Producer, and as my boss, I've always found Claire warm and someone who has a brilliant sense of humour, which has often been invaluable when covering difficult subjects and complex shoots in the UK and abroad.
Incredibly supportive and highly professional, Claire's invaluable knowledge and thorough understanding of the industry is a true asset. I had the pleasure of working with Claire on a difficult production with vulnerable teenagers who were sent to live with tribes around the world. I felt very comfortable approaching Claire with any concerns or questions night or day (due to the nature of the production - early hour calls were often) and she was exceptionally understanding and persistent; mindful of duty of care - contributors and crew alike with integrity, sincerity and indispensable support throughout the entire production. Claire is a real people's person, willingly offering guidance and advice calmly and professionally, particularly in difficult circumstances, Claire is not one to show stress and works astonishingly well under pressure. I would absolutely work with Claire again without any hesitation.
I have worked with Claire on multiple occasions and hope to do so again in the future.
Be it on seemingly ‘light’ produced-reality shows where she’s finding the original vajazzle, to hard hitting journalistic series working with the toughest characters out there, she is an Executive Producer of the utmost calibre; always approachable and very much a lead from the front kind of person.
Never one to shy away from any aspect of production, Claire encourages and supports everyone from the first day to the last, from runner to SP.
She has such a wealth of knowledge that there honestly seems no topic where she either hasn't got first hand experience or doesn't know a useful contact!
One of the hardest working people in TV, Claire will not rest until a job is 100% complete and should there be a problem, you can rest assured that 'if Claire can't fix it, no-one can.'
If you're looking for someone who has first rate Editorial, compliance and production know-how, can spot a brilliant character at 100 paces and has a visual flair for the edit like no other (not to mention has a wicked sense of northern humour), then look no further!
Claire is without doubt the hardest working person I have ever encountered within the tv industry. Always striving for creative excellence in every project she commits to, Claire is exemplary both editorially and visually. Her experience crosses many genres and whether it be a constructed reality series, a fact-ent format, or a hard-hitting documentary, Claire will deliver the very best she is able to no matter what obstacles are thrown in her way en route to her end goal - and that of the channel and production team she is working for and with. I would wholeheartedly recommend Claire - she’s a great boss, a great colleague and an excellent programme maker who will deliver no matter what.
