Ira Putilova is a non-binary British-Russian Documentary Director and Editor. For many years in Russia, Ira had been a member of various Russian art-activist groups and had been making documentary films condemning state crimes, police brutality and violence against queer people. In 2013 Ira, suffering from state persecution and had to flee Russia and claim political asylum in the UK. Since then Ira has studied Filmmaking at the London Film School under the mentorship of Alan Bernstein. Ira has worked on their own documentary films depicting an intersection between gender and poverty and participated in projects by other filmmakers. In 2016-2019 Ira made “Section Cis” a film about people in the non-binary and transgender squatting community in London that is due to be released in December 2023. Over the last 3 years, Ira has predominantly worked as a Junior Editor, Assistant Editor, and Editor on high-end Netflix, Channel 4, ITV, and SKY documentaries. “Love Languages”, a Netflix short film Ira co-edited in 2022, was long-listed for BAFTA in 2023. Ira was selected for the 2021 Grierson DocLab In Focus: Editing scheme under the mentorship of Claire Ferguson and was a mentee at the Bectu Unscripted programme, 2022.
