Creative Film, TV and Radio Producer with a strong journalistic leaning . I am adept at making compelling content into award-winning films , programmes, shows and podcasts.My experience, interest, passion for journalism and love of music led me to setting up my own company, Document. The objective was to make outstanding audio and visual documentaries.The journey that I then embarked on was challenging, joyful, fascinating and rewarding. I had the privilege of producing programmes for BBC R2. There was ‘Angel of Harlem: the Billie Holiday Story ‘ , (presented by Billy Crystal) , followed by ‘Eight Miles High : the Story of the Byrds’ (presented by Mr ‘Easy Rider’ himself , the late great Peter Fonda). That’s not forgetting ‘Electric Dreams’ which was a tribute to the producer, Giorgio Moroder. All three of these were recognised with Gold Awards at the New York Radio Festival in 2009, 2016 & 2017 respectively. In total I have made 50 docs or so for BBC Radio ranging from 5000-1, the story of Leicester City’s title victory, (for the WS), to a doc about the Strokes and the White Stripes playing Radio City Music Hall in New York, (for R1). We also made an eight-part series for BBC Radio 5-Live called ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll F.A. Cup’ whereby rock stars talked footy and vice versa. That ran for three years.For TV, I produced and directed a BBC1 documentary about Howard Marks. ‘Becoming Mr Nice’ aired to critical acclaim and profiled arguably Wales’ finest actor, Rhys Ifans’ transformation into Marks, the notorious drug dealer. I have also made other TV progs for the BBC, RTE and C4. Subjects included a series profiling emerging bands for Channel 4 in ‘Levi’s Ones to Watch’, ‘Jamie Cullum live at Blenheim Palace’ for BBC1 and ‘Convoy’ which was a half hour profile for C4 of Oxfordshire’s Truck Festival and its founders, Goldrush.In an associated vein, we filmed a host of live gigs the most spectacular of which was ‘Celebrate - Simple Minds live in Glasgow’.Perhaps my most ambitious project was the direction and production of ‘Upside Down: The Creation Records Story’, the officially sanctioned film that described the emergence and rise of the seminal record label. It was home to Oasis who sold 70 million records worldwide! The film received international acclaim, picked up the Mojo Vision Award and was also voted Film of the Year by the NME.
