I have been part of the wonderful world of Visual Effects for about three years now and I
never thought I would find a new passion out of it. I earned a degree in Film Studies
from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal,
Canada. When I embarked in my studies we were never taught anything about VFX. I
could have told you all about the historical documentaries from 1922 about indigenous
Inuit people from Canada but could not tell you anything more than “the use of green
screens is important in VFX”. It’s a shame really.. We studied the history of cinema, its
practices, its directors but never the more modern aspects of it. Visual effects are the
future of cinema. It creates magic out of nothing and makes us all believe in the worlds
crafted by the talented crews around the world. Why would anyone want to overlook
such a fascinating profession? Of course my interest for film and TV does not stop at
VFX, far from it.
My professional experiences have permitted me to dive into so many different and
engrossing projects. From the battle for equality in “On the Basis of Sex” (Focus Features,
2018) to the search for a relative in space in “Ad Astra” (20th Century Fox, 2019) all the
way to the dystopian reality of “Altered Carbon” (Netflix, 2020), VFX has no limits and
has time and time again mesmerised me and made me want to learn more. I am so
proud of the projects I’ve worked on for their diversity and I am so thankful to have been
able to work with so many talented people across companies. I am eager to work with
more VFX gods in the future! I am also curious to see what else this incredible industry
has to offer.
