I am an award-winning, driven and creative self-shooting Producer/Director with a real passion for documentaries.
My recent credits include Producer on the Bafta and Grierson award-winning Storyville documentary 'Locked In: Breaking the Silence' and in the summer of 2021 I directed a critically acclaimed First Cut for Channel 4 called 'The Boy Who Can't Stop Dancing'.
I have extensive experience in TV development and production and have worked with a diverse range of institutions, including the NHS, police, schools, local authorities and a range of charities. I have worked abroad in difficult environments, set-up complicated foreign and UK based shoots and am comfortable when managing vulnerable contributors and sensitive access relationships. I have strong investigative editorial skills, a passion for storytelling and experience of working in edits for series with complex compliance considerations. I am particularly interested in observational documentaries and creative, past-tense factual storytelling.
For background, I was the first person from my family and local comprehensive school to gain a place at Cambridge, and whilst studying there I achieved a First-Class degree in Politics, Psychology and Sociology. After graduating I earned a place on a Journalism Internship with BBC Radio 4 and worked across a range of factual and arts programmes. I was then awarded a position on the prestigious Grierson Trust Documentary training scheme in 2013, which involved industry training in factual TV and feature film production. I worked for the BBC Documentaries Department in Bristol for 4 years, gaining extensive experience in both development and production, including working on BAFTA-winning factual dramas, short-form content, and specialist factual programmes. I have worked on several critically acclaimed documentary series including ‘Drugsland’ (BBC Three) and ‘School’ (BBC Two). In 2019 I was named as one of the Edinburgh TV Festival’s ‘Ones to Watch’ and in 2020 I finished working as a Producer on a feature film documentary for BBC Storyville called ‘Locked In: Breaking the Silence’ (BAFTA Winner - Best Single Documentary/Grierson Winner - Best Science Documentary). In July 2021 I finished my first project as a self-shooting Director; ‘The Boy Who Can’t Stop Dancing’, a critically acclaimed First Cut film for Channel 4. The programme received widespread media coverage and positive reviews, it was described as: ‘instantly uplifting’ (The Daily Telegraph, What to Watch), ‘heartfelt' (The Radio Times, Documentary of the Week) and ‘cinematic’ (The Times, Critic’s Choice).
