Read MoreOver the course of my 26 year career, I’ve developed a unique skill set, having successfully performed in operations support roles for the BBC and in technical production roles at ITV such as Technical Assistant, Sound Assistant and Boom Operator, recording sound for Children’s returning series and adult’s continuing dramas, factual & current affairs, helping create content in studios and on location.
| With experience that spans a multitude of sectors, alongside my roles withing broadcast I have also provided strategic direction for teams within IT departments in higher education, led small and medium sized teams in high pressure situations for remote and live events and even managed teams in a number of Nightclubs and bars.
| As well as managing and directing staff and freelancers, I can confidently perform in various production roles in the delivery of productions, courses and events. Competently setting up and operating Sound desks, Vision mixers, Lighting desks, Cameras, Microphones and inter-related technical equipment. Recording and live streaming content from multi-camera setups across the UK either over internal BBC systems, via streaming platforms, social channels and websites or by liaising with external service providers, such as The Farm and Red Bee media.
| I am adept at confidently ascertaining and defining customer requirements often from vague descriptions. I thrive when I'm delivering in high-intensity situations that require quick thinking under pressure. As such in some of my most recent roles, I was regularly relied upon by senior staff to project manage the technical requirements for high-profile events such as the BBC Children's Editorial briefing, BBC Academy's Digital Cities, and the European Broadcasting Union's AI in production conference.
| Prior to joining the BBC, I was responsible for the technical production and support for large high profile events at a University the annual Graduation ceremonies and large multi-site conferences such as Norther Rocks that required a stable live video connection and two-way communication.
| I am an ambitious and multi-disciplined technical professional with an analytical mind and a practical approach to problem-solving. I have strong technical comprehension and excellent interpersonal skills, enabling me to interact with a wide range of clients and stakeholders. I have a firm grounding in project management and over 15 years of user support and team management experience. I am also skilled at motivating and leading teams to achieve excellence in client satisfaction and productivity, across multiple sectors.
| | I am an adaptable professional who has been consistently praised as proactive and hard-working by my co-workers and management. I am adept at working under pressure to tight conflicting, often changing deadlines and I thrive in high intensity situations that require quick thinking under pressure to rapidly provide effective solutions. This can all be demonstrated by comments, references and appraisals throughout my career. (Comments are verbatim, Originals can be supplied upon request) | 2023 - "Gareth was asked to support us with IT for the Children's Commissioning Day and he went above and beyond. Not only taking on sourcing equipment, advising on options and working with an external venue, but helping us find a suitable captioning service and arranging to work with talent abroad to create a special key note section for the day. He also opened up opportunities for other members of his team to be involved so they could experience how an event like this runs which is something we only do once a year. His tireless efforts to bring a level of professionalism, quality and team work to the event were evident when attendees were asking who did our tech for us as they wanted to use the same service!" Which BBC Values have they demonstrated? Choose all that apply. AUDIENCES are at the heart of everything we do, We are ACCOUNTABLE and deliver work of the highest quality, We are ONE BBC - we collaborate, learn and grow together"

Not only has he run complex events and prepared class rooms, he’s managed to work with complex BBC administration such as organising raw Internet for a Linux course recently. He has extracted precise requirements often form a vague brief, learning to assist colleagues who sometimes ask for support at the last minute. Gareth is enjoying his work for the Academy. There are no specific training requirements. Gareth has recently become an LGBTQ+ ally."
| 2019 - "Gareth’s most recent role was to support a wide range of student facing technologies including audio visual equipment, software and corporate enterprise services as well as to provide expert technical direction for internal and external events, projects and specialist teaching facilities. His work has centred around the support and optimisation of classroom IT and audio-visual equipment, the technical support for the University off-air recording and streaming service and the management of service impacting technology incidents. Gareth has a depth of technical knowledge especially in respect of design and delivery of effective and often complex audio-visual solutions to meet customer's needs. Gareth has demonstrated excellent customer service skills and works well with stakeholders to understand their requirements. Of particular note is the fact that Gareth has taken a lead in working with external suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver the audio-visual support required to ensure the University's annual Graduation events are a success. A further area where Gareth has excelled is in working with external events companies and academic sponsors to deliver commercial events at the University; a number of these have involved dealing with stakeholders including the BBC, local radio stations and high-profile speakers with very demanding technical requirements, often at short notice. On behalf of the University, I wish Gareth success in his future endeavours."
