I have always had a fascination with visual mediums, especially film, and how films were made from script to screen. I first became interested in filmmaking, editing specifically in secondary school; before school I would go on 'Doctor Who: trailer maker' and make trailers. I loved it! I fully realised that I wanted to be a part of the film industry when I was in college, because I was given the opportunity to explore my creativity in a number of mediums such as radio production, graphic design and advertising; I found that video/film production was the best fit for me.
However it was only in my university course at Southampton Solent University that I was able to home my skills as an overall filmmaker. Throughout my education I took part in projects in many roles and have seen that I’m most creative and enjoy myself the most when I’m being an editor or a screenwriter.
An inspiration of mine is Edgar Wright, his style as a director of comedic timing, reactions and understanding of story, are elements of his films that I love such as, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and the Cornetto Trilogy. I hope to achieve something similar myself someday. Another inspiration of mine is the actor Simon Pegg, whose written films such as Paul, Hot Fuzz and Star Trek Beyond. I enjoy his style and sense of humour which hits the balance of being a significant part of his films but doesn’t overwhelm the story or characters. In my scripts I try and keep the same sense of fun that Simon Pegg does.
