My name is Dr. Tana Joseph. I am a South African astronomer, entrepreneur, science communicator, technical consultant and public speaker. In 2018 I founded AstroComms, a company that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) communications and consulting (www.astrocomms.com), with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion in STEM. Through my business, I have gained experience in being a technical consultant for scriptwriters working on sci-fi material, focusing on Africa and the diaspora as well as working as a diversity consultant in the education sector. I believe that my experience as a black, female, African scientist gives me a unique perspective that would be very valuable to the creative industries who are looking to create more inclusive and representative content, for example, developing work in sci-fi, Afrofuturism and how under represented groups, in particular, interact with science and technology.
