In London, Yasmine studied short courses with Faber music and at SOAS, where she gained an interest in composing music for media and furthered her interest in Middle Eastern and Balkan Music. After establishing a background in belly dancing and studying Arabic music with Louai Alhenawi, Yasmine composed her first production album for Bleach Productions, ‘Sounds of the Middle East’. As an established performer, Yasmine continued to perform as a belly dancer and a vocalist in an Arabic-influenced band called Taqsim, enabling her to forge ongoing connections in the World Music scene. This has led to her writing music for, and recording with, a number of well-established musicians, such Tim Garside, Sass Hoory and Klezmer band She-Koyokh. Yasmine is currently performing and working in outreach communities in the North West of England. Work includes community engagement with Liverpool Arab Arts Festival, 73 Degree Films and National Theatre Wales. Yasmine uses her music to inspire the next generation of musicians and is a module leader for a course at BIMM University, Birmingham.Yasmine was drawn to media composing through community work and the importance of people’s stories being heard. Her work is often used in documentaries with hard-hitting subject matter. Yasmine worked directly with BBC editors on the Panorama documentary Failed by the NHS: Callie’s Story. Her music can also be heard in Panorama’s On the NHS Frontline (BBC1), Art of Persia (BBC4), When Bridges Collapse: The Genoa Disaster (BBC2) and China: A New World Order (BBC2) . Bespoke work includes BBC Africa Eye Faith Under Fire, directed by Chris Alcock, Forged, directed by Lauren Anders Brown and Taarof, directed by Alannah Olivia. Yasmine conducts recording sessions for her clients and has recorded singers from CK Gospel Choir to record ‘Change Will Change Her Life’, a film for the United Nations about Women’s rights. Yasmine was asked to perform English versions of sea shanties as a session singer for Assassin’s Creed. Since then, she has joined BAFTA Connect and has worked alongside developers in numerous Game Jams and funded Games writing music and sound effects.Yasmine has composed production albums for KPM, Bleach Music Productions, Motus Music, Hummingbird Music, West One Music, Reliable Source Music and No Sheet Music. Albums range from Traditional Middle Eastern, Middle Eastern Pop and Trap, Traditional Balkan, Balkan Ska, Reflective, Investigate, Dark and Neutral Underscores.
