Bases in London and Liverpool. I have experience working as a researcher with a number of different companies including BBC Events, Sky, Rope Ladder Fiction, Zeppotron and Lion TV.
During my most recent role as a Junior Researcher working with BBC Events, I undertook in-depth research into all aspects of the D-Day Landings 1944 and subsequent liberation of France. Contacting contributors and pitching ideas to executive producers, my role here included extensive back ground checks, delving into archieve material, sourcing personal information to support our broadcast narrative and creating detailed research briefs for senior member of staff and presenters. During the live even in Bayeux Normandy, I compiled leather bound books for our contributors and assisted with rehursals. My main priority on location was the welfare of one of our elderly contributors, assuring that her needs were met and working with the studio and floor managers to assure that she was in position on time during the live event.
I gained extensive experience in production as a 3rd and 2nd assistant director working on Hollyoaks in Liverpool. My duties as a 3rd included working with the 2nd and 1st assistant directors to ensure the smooth running of production; ensuring cast had undertaken their costume and make up checks, escourting cast to set, following and understanding call sheets and ensuring that all members of producer were notified of changes during the day. As a 2nd assistant director I would place supporting artists on screen, complete production paperwork and keeping the production management staff up to date with the shoot's progress throughout the day.
During the pandemic, I had to adapt my working style to home based roles and was comfortable taking on roles in which working from home is a must. As a Researcher working with Rope Ladder Fiction, I conducted research for a medical drama in paid development stage. I put out a casting call over several social media platforms in order to reach a specific group registered and student nurses based in Liverpool. After vetting contributors to insure they were right for the type of research needed, I conducted hour long interviews over Microsoft Teams with each individual. Using questions I had developed based on information that couldn't be accessed via google, I gathered as much information about their livelihoods, the nature of their working day and the NHS as an employer.
I have a keen interested in scripted content that began in university where I graduated with a BA Honours in Creative Writing. Here I was introduced to screenwriting and fell in love with all aspects of the craft. I learnt about the importance of character development, using action to convey feeling, how to write dialogue that moves the story forwards and how to format my work to an industry standard. I am currently writing a pilot episode for a historic tv series about the Liverpool Brownlow Hill Workhouse. Another interest of mine is comedy. I thoroughly enjoy watching comedy and would say the majority of TV series/Films I consume comes under this category.
During the pandemic, I worked from home as a junior development researcher for Zeppotron's 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Here I was tasked with brainstorming ideas, gathering images and other source materials in line with the format of the show, prop sourcing and developing segments for the show.
During my career, I have worked in factual entertainment on current affairs projects, the first of which was when I was accepted onto the MAMA Youth Project training course. Here I conducted the What's Up TV, Series 17 campaign on early onset dementia, I wrote a brief on the subject, contacted contributors, booked locations, organised filming days, and acted as item producer on set. I found the process extremely fulfilling and learnt a lot about the disease and realised the importance of sheading a light onto what I found to be a global health crisis.
I am an adaptable person who will happily take on new challenges. I like to push myself with each role and find that I learn best by doing. I value my communication and written skills and feel these are my strong points with any task I undertake. I have worked as a primary contact to potential contributors and have developed interpersonal skills this way.
