During my degree, which involved original research, I uncovered relatively unexplored topics that I think would make great material for tv or film in the form of a drama or documentary. One such example is the large number of hijackings of planes travelling from the US to Cuba, executed by US black liberation activists in the 1960s-80s. I uncovered this largely overlooked historical episode whilst writing my dissertation on the pivotal alliance between the US Black Power Movement and Cuba. In this way I think my degree armed me with applicable skills for this industry, such as the ability to research widely and find new ideas, as well as the capability of working hard and persevering with a project. I am currently working as a producer for Catalysta’s “2 Minutes 2 Midnight- an extravanganza” project, in which my main role is to reach out to venues, artists and production companies throughout Europe with the mission of organising an international arts festival, which will be filmed and televised. My desire to forge a career in film and tv has also lead me to work as a supporting artist, and also as a runner, since finishing my degree.
