Krysia Plonka is a three-time Emmy Award winner with a fourth nomination for the HBO one-man show Freak with John Leguizamo. Most recently, she directed and executive produced Fortune Feimster’s hit Netflix special Sweet & Salty, which earned a Critics’ Choice Award nomination.
Krysia is the Co-Owner and Creative Head/Executive Producer of the newly launched production company Modern Alchemy Media and splits her time between London and Los Angeles. She has produced—and frequently directed—projects for HULU, Netflix, ABC, NBC, HBO, FOX, YouTube Premium, CNN, Roku, VH1, MTV, WeTV, Comedy Central, and Sony.
She is currently developing a project with Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company (Big Mouth), and a series with Clelia Mountford (Bad Sisters) at Sunburnt Penguin based on a book she optioned. She is also executive producing and directing the one-woman show Grief…A Comedy by comedian and bestselling author of An English American, Alison Larkin. She is currently producing and attached to direct the comedy action feature, “Baddies” which is being co-produced by Bill Burr’s company.
Krysia directed Cara Delevingne in the BBC/Hulu documentary series Planet Sex, lauded by The Guardian as “the perfect mix of wit, warmth, intelligence and curiosity.” She served as EP/Showrunner on Season 3 of CNN’s History of Comedy, titled Women’s History of Comedy, which she created and co-wrote.
Previously, Krysia founded and led Thank You Brain Productions for a decade, serving as its creative head. Under that banner, she executive produced two seasons of the action-comedy Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television alongside Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers, Dodgeball), also serving as Second Unit Director. Starring Jon Cryer, Jane Lynch, Kristen Bell, Joel McHale, and Stephen Merchant, the series was hailed by TV Guide as “one of the best shows on television” (that no one ever saw!).
Her additional Thank You Brain credits include three seasons of HBO’s Those Who Can’t, which she directed on and executive produced. The AV Club praised the series as “relentlessly, defiantly funny,” featuring notable performances from Patton Oswalt, Susie Essman, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cheri Oteri, Henry Rollins, Kate Berlant, and more.
Her independent pilot Brooklyn Moving Company—which she developed, executive produced, and directed—won the Jury Prize for Best Comedy at Series Fest.Krysia has also executive produced short-form films for major event television, including the People’s Choice Awards, MTV Movie & TV Awards, and Taraji P. Henson’s annual FOX holiday special. These featured LL Cool J, DJ Khaled, Niecy Nash, Adam Devine, and Jillian Bell and Aubrey Plaza.
She also directed the field pieces for Nikki Glaser’s pilot Not Safe with Nikki Glaser, which went to series, as well as the FX-heavy opening film for Bette Midler’s world tour Divine Intervention. Other scripted work also includes executive producing the digital micro-comedy series I Like You Just the Way I Am for ABC with Jason Biggs and Busy Philipps and EP’ing and directing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in a series of holiday shorts for Glamour.
Recently, she directed the Maker’s Mark–branded Roku comedy talk series The Show Next Door with Randall Park, featuring guests Tony Hale, Nicole Byer, Fortune Feimster, Jason Mraz, and Mark Duplass.Before moving into scripted content,
Krysia was a showrunner on multiple unscripted comedy hits, launching Billy on the Street with Billy Eichner (truTV), the Vision Award–winning Weekends with DL Hughley (Comedy Central), and the Emmy-winning Wayne Brady Show (ABC). She also served as a field producer on the iconic Chris Rock Show (HBO).
Her unscripted credits extend to a wide range of docu-follows and formats, including Tori Spelling’s sTORIbook Weddings, VH1’s My Celebrity Dream Wedding, Fashion Emergency, Extreme Home Makeover: How Did They Do That?, and numerous network specials for InStyle.Krysia is a member of the DGA, WGA, and SAG-AFTRA.
