Most recently, I was showrunner of
Jack the Ripper: Written in Blood for SKY / NOW TV. Starring Mark Strepan, Moe Dunford, Amy-Leigh Hickman, Tyger Drew-Honey and Chelsea Halfpenny, this three-part drama-doc (80% fully scripted dialogue-driven drama) reveals the true story of how a gang of ruthless journalists created the legend of Jack the Ripper and helped him get away with murder.
Previously I was showrunner of
Inside the FBI: The 70s for Nat Geo / Disney+. Across six episodes this retrospective archive driven series chronicles the extreme threats facing America in the 1970s. Each unfolding narrative is told through the eyes of the FBI agents who were there. Features stylized recreations.
In 2022, I was showrunner of
Royal Mob starring Michele Dotrice for SKY / NOW TV / eOne. This four-part drama-doc (80% fully scripted dialogue-driven drama) tells the true story of how tensions between the great Royal Courts of Europe triggered WWI and the Russian Revolution. As well as being the creative and editorial lead, I directed on the series (uncredited).
In 2020, I directed the haunting docu-drama
Belsen: Our Story for the BBC. Using unique survivor testimonies, this moving film reveals the true experience of life inside the infamous Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The film received multiple award nominations in addition to five-star reviews in
The Guardian,
The Times and
The Telegraph.
My other recent successes include
Back to the Titanic for Disney+,
History of the Emirates with Jeremy Irons for National Geographic, and
Thai Cave Rescue and
Kilauea: Hawaii on Fire for PBS.
My early accomplishments include the four-part climate change series
Man on Earth with Tony Robinson for Channel 4, and, for the BBC,
Restoration with Griff Rhys Jones,

Simon Raikes, Commissioning Editor, National Geographic. "It’s been my pleasure to have Tom helming two great projects for Sky History: Royal Mob and Jack The Ripper: Written In Blood, and in both instances, he’s risen to the editorial and creative challenge with a rare passion and positive energy which has made both a real joy to work on and a great success for the channel. He is a very thoughtful and inclusive “captain of the team”, ensuring all voices are heard and that the process is an entirely collaborative and rewarding one. He combines his indefatigable energy and deep knowledge across a range of genres and styles, with a forensic attention to detail and a willingness to take calculated creative risk, as and when appropriate, which ensures that his shows feel both fresh and original. I can’t recommend him highly enough and look forward to our next collaboration." - Dan Korn, Vice President, Programming, Hearst Networks EMEA.“Tom has proven to be a remarkably resourceful, creative and steady hand at producing films under very difficult conditions. In all the time I’ve known him, he’s been a consistently positive and upbeat force of optimism and one of the most reliable problem solvers I’ve worked with.” –
