From as young as 15 years old, I have had a flair for filming. I would often subject my younger brother to being the subject for my latest editing project/short films. This interest and passion from such a young age makes me the idyllic candidate for you.
Within the last 8 years, that same flair for videography has continued and inspired my university course choice - I studied a BA Hons in Film and Television Production at the Blackpool and the Fylde College University Centre which was one of the most challenging, fun and rewarding periods of my life.
During my first year at University, I wrote, directed and edited my first professional grade short film about a man who has gone to the woods to take his own life, but his mind is changed through the words of a ghost he meets. These creative choices illustrate problems one may face in today's society. This short film gave me the opportunity to work with my own crew. Being in a position that everyone looked to for direction, with the responsibility of coordinating my own creative team was a position I instantly adapted to and relished in.
Progressing through the next three years, I got to undertake various roles within the digital media industry from vision mixing at various live music events, to editing B-Roll for a short film and unashamedly starring in various short films in roles assisting my peers in ways they have helped me. One role I particularly took to was taking on the role of vision mixer for a live university game show. I loved the pressure of the live environment and working in the gallery with all my peers.
I started to take on my own freelance work outside of University such as creating music videos for a North West Soul and Motown Tribute Artist to promote his tour. This gave me valuable industry experience which I believe would benefit me in this position.
The most challenging piece of work I have completed was writing, directing and producing my final short film all while co-organising a Film Festival in Blackpool. This film met a few obstacles during production such as issues with locations, actors dropping out last minute and re-writes to accommodate the new cast members. I used my problem-solving skills to quickly engineer a resolution to these problems so we adhered to schedule. Organising a film festival all while producing a short film gave me the confidence in my ability to my workload and stick to rigid deadlines. For the Film Festival, I took the initiative to seek an additional sponsor to enhance the budget I was given, as project manager, to maximise the events full potential. I coordinated a team of 8 colleagues covering all departments from merchandise, to researchers and marketing (on and offline). I scouted locations for the event and negotiated with all venue managers/owners with whom I was in regular contact with to ensure the event was a success.
Post-graduation, I still keep in contact with a few lecturers who I now work for on a freelance basis. Establishing my career as a freelance videographer/editor has developed my independence skills and resilience when tackling difficult and unfamiliar tasks - both qualities, I believe, are integral to this position and videography. I would edit footage, draft assembly edits and master a final edit, liaising with parties involved at various points to check I am fitting the brief. My most recent work is editing a short film for a group of acting students. Off the back of this, the college I would be working for want me to edit some promotional footage for a series of college courses for use in digital marketing.More recently, I have been working with a company called Media Displays, who provide mobile LED Screens to various events across the UK. I have provided support in the form of a 3 cam set up to a vision mixer at the Bradford Dragon Boat Race Festival. Not only did I provide technical support but I provided creative input, teaching both technicians and management staff on how to get the most professional grade work for the client. Just this past week I crossed roles across vision mixing and camera work at the great Yorkshire show, live feeding it to two big screens and screaming it live to YouTube. My flair for working within the media industry shows no lapse and is here to stay and I intend to further my knowledge and skills as my career develops. Here is a link to my showreel : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f46dHjaMZOQ Read Less
