Due to the covid pandemic my undergraduate degree never went to plan and many of the opportunities that were promised as part of my degree quickly became unavailable and were never again presented. During this time the industry went through changes and there was lots of uncertainty in regard to job security and what the future of film and tv production looked like. It led to many moments of self-doubt about my career and future and upon completing my degree, felt completely discouraged and disheartened to pursue a career at that time. I made the decision to complete my master’s in strategic marketing as I felt this would be a perfect opportunity for me to continue to explore my creative side and provide potential opportunities to continue to work within the film industry, this time from a business perspective. Now upon completing my master’s I feel as though I am ready to grab the bull by the horns and begin my career in an industry I have loved and cared for, for as long as I can remember.
I’ve always been passionate about working within the film and television industry and have a great interest in working as a creative in this space. Outside of editing several short films and working on editing pieces to share with friends and family, I have also recently begun my own online blog where I write articles about changes within the industry, current pop culture trends and how they will impact film and tv as well as marketing. I have also done volunteer work at a local theatre where I have helped to build sets as well as set up and run lighting for various productions.
Film and tv, have long been important mediums for so many people to tell their stories in expressive ways and bring them to life. So often these mediums are viewed as nothing more than simple tools of delivering entertainment and in a world where things such as Artificial Intelligence threatens to replace the jobs of real artists, it is with upmost importance that people, like ourselves, who love this industry continue to champion its existence.
I am willing to apply my knowledge and determination to any aspect of the production or development. What I lack in experience in this industry, I make up for tenfold in knowledge and passion and would be more than willing to turn my hand to anything, whether that be an assistant, runner or an extra pair of hands where needed. I never shy away from a challenge and will always give 110% to any task I am given.
