Since November 2006 I have been a freelance editor operating Avid and
Premiere Pro. I have completed projects for delivery to the main UK
terrestrial channels as well as for international transmission and
Streamers. The short-form projects I have undertaken have demanded a
good knowledge of After Effects and/or layering in the NLE for compositing
graphical elements. Notably for Disney promos and sporting events music
items.
I've been very lucky to work on varied and interesting projects including
BBC’s ‘Israel And The Palestinians: The Road To 7th October’ for Norma
Percy and edited for many years on ‘The Royal Institution Christmas
Lectures’. With the later, I’ve very often made graphics for inclusion in the
final edit as there is no budget for a graphics deptartment. The opening
titles are done by students to offer them broadcast experience and I always
track-lay and final mix the sfx/music for them. On two occasions I even
constructed iPad and web app’s with my own design as props for the
presenters.
Windfall Films history documentaries are award-winning doco’s about
important archeological finds. They required a good dose of additional
tension in the narrative that wasn’t necessarily there on location.
Projects for Rogan Productions have particularly exercised my creativity:
‘Gay Under The Taliban’ was nominated for an editing BAFTA. It was one
of the most unique programmes I’ve ever done where the edit began with
just 14 pages of SMS text messages in broken English and a brief to make
a 40’ programme. ‘Silicon Britannia’ was the second episode of three which
I edited almost entirely by myself (due to production commitments).
