I have been in the industry for 38 years, 24 years at the BBC and now freelance, with 35 years experience as an editor, brought up on tape, moving into non-linear offline and online, grading, graphics and finishing. Credits span a large range of genres and styles, from top BBC multi-camera entertainment like ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ to the multiple RTS and BAFTA award winning children’s adventure strand ‘Serious Jungle / Desert / Arctic ….’ to fast-turn around OB work and documentaries. Award winning programmes include insert and OB editor for both ‘The D-Day 70 Commemoration Day 2014’, (RTS Award, Best Live Event) and ‘World War One Remembered – The Lights Go Out’ (BAFTA Award, Best Live Event) and part of the edit team on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in their 2016 & 2024 BAFTA award season. Recent projects include: For the BBC, Strictly Come Dancing 2024 (my 14th season) VT inserts and live OB highlights for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and Her Majesty’s Funeral coverage, then HM The King's Coronation, Operation Ouch! for CBBC and for Discovery, Freddy and Juan's Mine Rescue. My specialties include offline long form docs or obs-doc, but equally competent with short form and fast turnaround or close-to-air programming. A team player, I am seen by productions as a calm, safe pair of hands when under time pressure, showing strong editorial understanding and attention to detail, especially when dealing with sensitive subject matter. Whilst at the BBC, I was lead editor for CBBC providing technical and craft support to 18 Avid edit suites, editors and clients alike. In addition to working within facilities houses, I have an Avid system at home which is available for hire working with me, this was invaluable when working during the Covid lockdowns, I have a good internet connection and are confident working remote with strategies in place for reviewing cuts and completing projects efficiently by remote. Married to Mary, herself former BBC, with two children one in further education, the second is a TA in a SEND school.
