    About XICOIA

XICOIA is an AI entertainment studio building and managing AI-native characters as owned IP. Spun out of award-winning production company Particle6, we create characters that live across social platforms, interactive real-time experiences and original narrative production.

Our flagship character, Tilly Norwood, became a global story within weeks of launch. Behind her sits a slate of characters in development and a growing pipeline of commercial partnerships.

    About the Role

We're building the future of entertainment - and we've got an extraordinary story to tell. Our flagship character, Tilly Norwood, went from a bold idea to a global conversation within weeks of launch, and now we want to capture that story as it unfolds, in real time, as we move towards making our AI feature film.

We're looking for a Documentary Filmmaker to join us on a part-time, fixed-term contract, working within a small team to bring this story to life. You'll shoot content for our upcoming behind the scenes documentary on Tilly Norwood, embedded closely with our CEO and the wider team as we build something that's never existed before. The film will combine real, live-action footage with AI-generated visual and audio elements, and you'll help shape how these come together on screen. AI tools are a genuine part of how work gets made at Particle6, and you'll be expected to work confidently across both traditional filmmaking and our hybrid AI workflows.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    - Observational Documentary Production: Shoot and capture real footage and interviews, working closely with our Executive Producer and production team to plan shoots around our CEO and key company moments.
    - Camera, Sound & Lighting: Direct scenes - operate broadcast standard camera, record sound, and set up and execute lighting where necessary.
    - Shot Planning: Build shot lists and coverage plans ahead of each shoot day, translating the story into a clear visual approach.
    - Story: Develop the story as it unfolds over many months of filming, working closely with our Producer to shape structure and narrative.
    - Editing & Post-Production: Cut and edit to early assemblies, blending traditional editing with AI-assisted visuals, animation and sound.
    - Rushes & Logging: Manage rushes, notes and logging across an extended shoot, keeping footage organised and the story on track - with the support of a small production team.
    - AI Integration: Work with the wider AI production team and use our hybrid AI workflows to bring AI-generated visual, animation or sound elements into the film alongside live-action footage.
    - Creative Collaboration: Contribute within a small team on story structure, treatments and creative direction, working alongside producers, editors, and wider production team.
    - Trend & Tool Awareness: Stay across new AI tools and techniques relevant to documentary storytelling, bringing fresh ideas into the edit.
    - Quality & Delivery: Manage your own timelines, file structure and deliverables, ensuring delivery is on schedule and to a high creative standard.

    What We’re Looking For

    - 5+ years' experience in documentary filmmaking, ideally with experience in observational filming, or a closely related discipline.
    - Experience filming and editing real footage and interviews, with a strong editorial instinct for pacing, tone and story.
    - Hands-on experience operating broadcast quality cameras (please specify which), with a strong technical understanding of lenses, sound recording, lighting.
    - Experience translating story and creative intent into directorial choices on location.
    - A drive to work with AI tools and push what they can produce in documentary filmmaking. We are not looking for passive interest, but active engagement.
    - Confidence using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, and experience with AI generation or editing tools (e.g. Seedance, Veo, Kling, ElevenLabs, or similar) is a strong plus.
    - Comfortable working within a small team, collaborating closely with producers, editors and other production team members.
    - Strong organisational skills, with a focus on file structure and timeline management in a fast-paced environment.
    - Comfortable with flexible, hybrid working, including some travel - this can be further discussed at interview.
