Lead Producer / Senior Producer – Weekly Visualised Current Affairs Podcast

  • Description

We are looking for a Senior Producer to lead an existing visualised talent led weekly politics and current affairs podcast.

This is an exciting editorial role for someone with excellent political judgement, strong production instincts, and the confidence to steer a fast-turnaround weekly show from idea to release. This show has been running for multiple years, so you would not be building an audience from scratch, but still has so much room to grow. You will oversee the editorial arc of each episode, work closely with presenters on scripts and structure, direct the show on recording days, and lead the team delivering the podcast across audio, video and digital platforms.

You will also take responsibility for compliance and editorial standards, helping ensure the show is rigorous, distinctive and ready for weekly release.

This role will suit someone who combines editorial authority with collaborative leadership: someone who can generate ideas, make decisions under pressure, support talent, and get the best out of a small production team. Someone who enjoys both the big picture and the weekly detail. You will be comfortable moving between scripting, editorial planning, compliance, talent management and studio direction, and you will know how to keep quality high without losing pace. And, most importantly, you will live and breathe the front pages.

Politics is a fast moving world, and so you must be comfortable occasionally working outside of regular working hours should the need arise.

    The role

    You will:

Lead the editorial planning of a weekly politics and current affairs podcast
Shape the running order, angles, and editorial arc of each episode
Work closely with presenters and the team to write and edit scripts
Identify and develop original angles on major political stories, and develop original guest ideas for those stories
Studio produce weekly recordings, including sessions with in-person and remote contributors
Direct ad-reads and any additional recorded content
Oversee the team delivering the podcast across audio, video and digital output
Manage the editorial compliance process and clear the show for release
Work closely with digital and social teams to support audience growth across YouTube, podcast platforms and social media
Liaise with hosts and internal stakeholders, balancing editorial, practical and creative needs
Help develop the show’s long-term growth and editorial direction

    About you

    You will have:

A strong track record in journalism or factual production, ideally in politics, news or current affairs
Excellent editorial judgement and a strong understanding of the UK political landscape
Confidence shaping fast-turnaround weekly output to a high standard
Experience writing scripts and working closely with presenters or on-air talent
Strong understanding of compliance, regulation and broadcast law
Experience leading productions or managing teams in high-pressure editorial environments
The ability to make clear decisions, give constructive feedback and keep a production moving
A collaborative approach and strong communication skills
Creative ambition and a clear feel for how a distinctive current affairs show should sound and look
Experience working across both audio and video formats, with fast editing ability on at least one of these formats

    Desirable

Familiarity with video podcasts, studio-based current affairs output, or live-to-tape production
Experience working with high-profile presenters or public-facing talent
Experience supporting digital growth and editorial packaging across social and video-first platforms
