Edit Assistant
Description
We are looking for an experienced edit assistant to join the NHU on an archive-driven documentary.
Dates: 1st September 2026 until April 2027
Contract: Freelance PAYE
Please note this role is subject to Greenlight funding.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
• The role requires a technically proficient person with a meticulous attention to detail. You'll be expected to manage your own time efficiently and to work flexibly to fulfil the role. You'll need a friendly attitude and a willingness to work co-operatively as part of a team.
• You should have the ability to assess priorities and adapt to fast changing circumstances, schedule activities and resources and be able to work under pressure in a high paced environment to set deadlines.
• Interest and passion for editing with evidence of cutting things like web clips, promos, in-house show reels and rough assembles/Edit rushes pulls of sequences for productions.
• You’ll be required to undertake a range of operational duties and to assist Editors and the Post-Production team as and when required.
• You will establish and maintain a good system of media management and adhere to predefined operational and technical standards. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:
• Working with editorial teams to help identify shooting requirements (e.g. codecs, frame rates, shooting ratios).
• Preparing appropriate DIT kits and providing training to teams where needed.
• Manage production rushes from acquisition through offline editing, delivery, and archiving.
• Support editorial teams in using post-production software to achieve a shared creative vision.
• Maintain a good system of media management and adhere to predefined operational and technical standards.
• Create accurate technical logs, administrative documents, and tracking records.
• Create and keep a library of clips from episodes to be used in show reels.
• Create and keep a library of sound FX, music and useful archive footage.
• Contribute to other post-production duties and projects as needed.
• Other duties and projects as may reasonably be required by Post production.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
• Proven experience supporting feature length documentaries, including working with 3rd party clients, archive heavy workflows, and curation of key technical documentation.
• Strong post-production expertise using Avid and Premiere Pro, including ingesting multiple camera formats (RED, FX6, Drone, DLSR, proxy workflows, syncing rushes, multicam editing, end of edits and conform.
• Solid understanding of HD and RAW workflows in DaVinci Resolve including metadata management, proxy creation and colour science.
• Excellent attention to detail with a collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively in dynamic production environments.
• Demonstrable passion for film, video production, and emerging technology.
