Description
Drama Consultant - TV
The stories we hear about the climate crisis shape how we as a society respond to it. The British TV industry is turning its attention to crafting compelling shows that feature the reality of climate change, and the solutions to it. So there’s huge potential to make a real difference and break new ground in this exciting field. We don’t expect you to be an expert on climate change, but you must be passionate about the power of storytelling, and able to translate climate and sustainability into moments, mentions and stories that audiences genuinely want to watch.
We’re looking for someone with extensive experience in the scripted world as a writer, producer, script editor or consultant to help lead our work in the TV scripted/drama industry.
Alongside our team of expert facilitators and comms experts, you’ll be designing and leading workshops with broadcasters and producers, commissioners and development teams. You’ll be uncovering climate themes and stories and framing them in ways that lead to change. This is done through bespoke workshops, consultation and events.
You'll be an experienced TV professional with years of developing or making programmes under your belt, and recent credits at Producer level or above, eager to throw yourself into this exciting role. You’ll have lots of experience working with writers, drama commissioners, and producers. We want someone who knows how to run impactful and imaginative writers’ rooms, who has experience giving feedback to writers and consulting on scripts, and has a fantastic network of contacts across the scripted industry, from leading British indies to drama commissioners at BBC, Netflix etc.
Key responsibilities:
● Pitching, planning and delivering behind-the-scenes workshops for people working across and with TV, inspiring more effective storytelling around climate change.
● Working with our team to learn how we run these workshops and will deliver these alongside the team and independently. You will also originate new ways to run the workshops to maximise impact.
● Working with sustainability leads at major broadcasters and streamers, as well as directly with commissioning teams, productions teams and talent
● Developing creative ways to get climate stories on screen in a range of formats, genres and productions.
● Connecting the dots between climate and TV, you must translate climate change concepts and narratives into TV storylines, lines of dialogue etc that TV producers can easily get their teeth into.
● Identifying new leads and opportunities for climate storytelling and workshops and nurturing relationships to make these happen
● Keeping up to date with relevant communications insight, new TV commissions, and attending training, workshops and collaborating with other organisations working in this space.
● Reviewing media and popular culture, analysing content and highlighting examples of good and bad climate storytelling.
● Producing decks and creative materials for workshops. Each is tailored to the event and involves a range of TV clips, visual references, audience viewing figures and insights.
● Identifying risks with the programme and proactively bringing this to your team
● Collaborating with another Storytelling Consultant. This is not a job share - you will work independently - but you will sometimes need to handover to meet deadlines etc.
