Producer/Director, ITN Production (6 Month FTC)

  • Description

We’re looking for a savvy, creative and fast Producer / Video Editor to help shape a new YouTube news channel producing explainer‑led, news‑adjacent content focused on UK politics.

You’ll be responsible for cutting compelling, visually engaging videos that break down complex current affairs into clear, narrative‑driven stories for digital audiences. This role requires strong editorial judgement, excellent pacing, and an instinct for what keeps viewers watching.

Working closely with the Executive Producer and Head of Digital Content, you’ll help develop ideas, contribute to scripting, refine edits, and ensure a consistent and distinctive editorial voice. There will also be opportunities to go on shoots and capture original footage.

    Key Responsibilities:

Edit engaging, explainer‑led video content for a YouTube news audience
Shape raw footage, archive, news clips and original material into clear, impactful stories
Translate complex political and current affairs topics into accessible, narrative‑led videos
Collaborate with senior editorial leads to develop ideas, scripts and story structures
Maintain strong pacing, visual storytelling and audience retention throughout edits
Work to fast turnaround deadlines while maintaining editorial and technical standards
Contribute creative ideas to the channel’s format, tone and visual style
Occasionally shoot original footage where required

These are the main requirements of the role and is not an exhaustive list of duties. It is intended to reflect the nature, range, and context of the work, which will change over time.

    Key Requirements:

Proven experience editing video for digital platforms
Strong storytelling skills with excellent narrative structure and pacing
A clear understanding of YouTube, audience behaviour and engagement strategies
Confidence working in a fast‑paced environment with tight deadlines
Ability to turn raw, complex material into clear and compelling video stories
Strong news sense, with a passion for UK politics and current affairs
Excellent attention to detail and editorial judgement

    Desirable Experience:

Experience editing news or current affairs content
Familiarity with explainer or journalism‑led video formats
Basic scripting or story development experience
    Photoshop or graphic design experience
