Casting Researcher - Bargain Hunt

  • Description

Bargain Hunt, BBC One’s popular daytime antiques series, is looking for a confident, enthusiastic casting researcher to join the busy team.

    Base: Cardiff, Roath Lock

Contract Date: 11th May to 2nd Oct 2026

Broadcast almost every day of the year, Bargain Hunt has been one of the nation’s favourite shows for 25 years and regularly attracts up to two million viewers.

The Cardiff-based production team makes 96 new episodes of the programme each year, including themed programmes and specials. We film with presenters, experts and contributors at antiques fairs and auctions across the UK. Casting great teams is at the heart of the show’s success, and we are looking for exceptional candidates with a proven track record of auditioning and selecting brilliant contributors with entertaining on-screen chemistry.
This role is based in Roath Lock, Cardiff and regular office attendance is required, although some flexible working is permitted. The successful candidate will occasionally go on location. In general, normal office hours will apply, however the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Sorting and evaluating applications - Bargain Hunt receives up to 100 contestant applications every day. Casting researcher will use the Cast It Reach system to identify potentially suitable contestants and contact them to ask for more information and provide an introductory WhatsApp video.

Auditioning teams – Casting researcher will work independently and within the wider production team, conducting Zoom interviews with potential contestants who make it through the initial application stages. You will assess their performance, carry out background checks and work alongside our other casting researcher, producer and location directors to decide which teams should be chosen to appear on the show. Previous experience of auditioning contributors is highly desirable.
Organisation and administration – You will be a confident communicator with first-class organisational and time management skills. You are often expected to work on your own initiative, to update casting documents and spreadsheets, and to communicate with members of the public via phone, email and WhatsApp.

Social media – Casting researcher will be very involved in originating, creating and delivering our social media to promote the programme on our own platform, as well as other platforms. Creative ideas, good writing skills and a keen interest in social media are essential for this role. Previous experience in running social media accounts and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro are highly desirable.

Closing date: Tuesday 31st of March 2026

BBC Studios is committed to having a diverse range of skills, experience and talent working on our programmes, and as such we’re keen for applicants from underrepresented groups to apply, particularly those who are neurodivergent, have a disability, are from an ethnic minorities background and lower socio-economic groups to ensure we are representative of all.
