    We are looking for a series director for our specialist factual department which is responsible for series including BBC Two's Civilisations:Rise and Fall; Inside Our ADHD/Inside Our Dyslexic Minds and Disaster at Sea:The Piper Alpha Story.

    We are looking for a dynamic and creative Series Director to bring their unique vision to an exciting new premium 2x 60’ landmark series (Note: this role is subject to greenlight). This series is for an international broadcaster and global distribution, that has a focus on the natural world and combines observational documentary with cinematic visuals.

    The right candidate will be an outstanding non-fiction storyteller with visual flair and a proven ability to build dramatic, emotionally engaging, multilayered character-driven stories. They will have a clear and committed understanding of the constraints of budget and will be an inspiring, considerate and responsible team leader.

    Key responsibilities and impact:

    • Creative Storytelling: Will bring a bold and innovative visual style and great instinct for modern, character-driven stories that are vibrant and surprising, that connect with a large audience and tackles complex issues with a lightness of touch.
    • Establish and maintain relationships: Manage strong working relationships across the production team and with external clients and build and maintain trust with a wide and varied range of contributors.
    • Team Management: Lead and manage a team, including Assistant Producer and Researcher, and work successfully alongside Series Producer, Story Producer and Line Producer, within the London-based office and, on location, working closely with local crews on the ground.
    • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all filming activities comply with safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
    • Edit: To confidently take this series through the edit and delivery.

    Essential criteria
    • Proven experience directing on high profile/premium docuseries for a range of broadcasters and international streamers,
    • Proven experience in telling emotional and engaging stories in the observational documentary field, involving a wide range of on-screen characters, often with little experience in front of camera.
    • Demonstrated passion for the natural world and conservation.
    • Proven ability to successfully conduct filming under highly challenging conditions.
    • The ability to work under pressure with excellent communication and project management skills.
    • Willingness to work abroad for sustained filming trips.

    Desired but not required:
    • Fluent in Brazilian Portuguese.
    • Experience filming in remote and difficult areas.
    • Evidence of directing natural history sequences.
    • Self-shooting skills.
