TM Masterclass: Derek vs Derek
With special guests James Dawson (Director) and Adam Wishart (Executive Producer)
Tuesday 10th November 2026
Derek vs Derek is a new feature documentary about two neighbouring farmers in Devon who share a name, 20 years of history and almost nothing else.
Derek Banbury is a third-generation dairy farmer running 400 acres and more than 200 cows, working under the tight commercial pressures of feeding the nation. Next door, former sheep farmer Derek Gow has turned his land into a rewilding project, digging ponds, letting hedges grow wild and reintroducing beavers, water voles, wild boar and storks.
Shot over three years, the film follows their turbulent, funny and very human relationship. Frustration over escaped animals, overgrown hedges and opposing beliefs gradually gives way to a shared understanding of the pressures facing farmers today.
The film has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, screening at Zurich Film Festival, Sheffield DocFest 2026 and DOC NYC, along with many more festivals.
In this Masterclass, James and Adam take us behind the scenes of a long-form observational shoot, from earning the trust of two very different contributors to finding a story that is balanced, warm and honest about a divisive issue.
The webinar is open to all. Pro and Premium members can stay on for an extended Q&A with James and Adam afterwards.
Webinar: 7pm to 7:55pm
Extended Q&A for Pro members: 8pm to 8:30pm
