Generative AI represents a step change in television production, promising new efficiencies and creative possibilities across development, production, and post-production.
This session looks at what this shift means in practice, exploring the key legal opportunities and risks of using AI in television production - from intellectual property and performer rights to training data, regulation, and compliance. It offers a practical guide for those working in production who are navigating AI in real-world workflows.
Course Content
In this session, boutique TV law specialists ABBAS Media Law will cover:
- How AI is already being used across the production lifecycle
- Copyright and related rights, including ownership and authorship of AI outputs, infringement risks arising from training data and generated content, and performers’ and moral rights
- Passing off, trade marks, and “look-alike” risks, including AI content that evokes recognisable brands or personalities and creates misrepresentation
- Data protection and privacy issues, including the use of personal data in AI models and workflows
- Performer, contributor, and consent issues, including voice cloning, digital replicas, and contractual limitations
- Defamation, malicious falsehood, and factual accuracy, and why AI outputs must still be checked
- AI and broadcast regulation, including fairness, transparency, and compliance considerations
The session will finish with a 15-minute Q&A, giving you the chance to put your questions directly to the ABBAS team.
This session will be delivered by Zoom, with captioning available.
