Course Content

Researchers: How to be the best and beat the rest...
 
A course for aspiring - and existing - researchers. Taught by established programme-makers. 

Now revamped in into modules as follows; 

 

One Day (in person) 

Module One - You will learn all the core skills needed to be a first-rate researcher including finding, assessing and working effectively with contributors, taking briefs and reporting back to producers, keeping records, best use of online - and offline - research tools, what makes a good TV story, finding, recceing and working on location, and crucial duty of care / compliance issues. With hands-on exercises and much more!

 

Online: (1 1/2 hour sessions (6.00 - 7.30) as follows: 

Module Two - Specialist Research (Natural History / Blue Chip)

-              Journalistic characteristics  

-              Sourcing scientists and experts 

-              Working with scientists and experts 

-              Working with Animal behaviours and the Animal Welfare Act

-              Working in the Natural History Unit (BBC) 

-              Working on location in specialist TV 

-              Fact sourcing and checking in more specialist genres

-              Script Development 

-              Locations and Permits 

 

Module three - Archive Research  

-              Research role within teams 

-              Sourcing material – working with archive libraries and companies

-              Building contacts for archive jobs 

-              Licenses and costs

-              Negotiation skills 

-              Timescales and working closely with edits
