Is it worth investing in your own camera/kit as a Shooting PD?

I've recently stepped up to Shooting PD/DV Director roles and wondering if it would be worth investing in my own kit. I know it makes sense for DOPs to do it, but is it the case when staying on the editorial side (and potentially taking non-shooting roles as well)? Would be very interested to hear people's thoughts on it.
