How to deal with a work gap at Christmas?

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on keeping proactive within the industry over the Xmas period, I've just finished a job during which I couldn't find the time to start looking for the next and at the moment I am looking hard but I've heard about a so-called 'work drought' over Xmas. Does anyone have any advice on how to manage it?
