ITV is looking for five emerging Black filmmakers to make shorts for a new strand that will mark Black History Month in October.

The broadcaster is looking for people who may have worked as shooting APs or DV directors to step up to helm their first film.

The Fresh Cuts strand will be a showcase for films that reflect the range of Black British lives today, with ITV committing to each film being helmed by someone new to the channel.

The strand is looked after by factual entertainment commissioning editor Sastmohan Panesar, who is working with ITV’s creative diversity team, led by group diversity director Ade Rawcliffe, on the project.

ITV Studios will provide production support and mentoring for the chosen film-makers, supported by ITV Studios UK director Angela Jain.

ITV is issuing a full brief on Friday 21 February and will host a webinar the next day for those wanting to take part. The closing date for entries is 18 March.

Last year's Black History Month output included primetime documentaries fronted by Ashley Banjo, Charlene White and will.i.am, special editions of regular ITV daytime shows Good Morning BritainLorraineThis Morning and Loose Women,a bespoke channel ident and a three-part ITV Hub series, The Bridge.
