Priya Dogra is to make her first public appearance as chief executive of Channel 4 at this year’s Creative Cities Convention.

Dogra, who joined the broadcaster as Alex Mahon’s successor in March, will take part in a ‘fireside-style’ conversation with Lime Pictures executive producer Hannah Cheers on the first day of this year’s event, which takes place in Liverpool on 6 and 7 May.

Dogra is expected to outline her views of the future of Channel 4, the wider public service broadcasting landscape, and the challenges and opportunities facing the UK’s creative sector.

She described the event as “a brilliant opportunity to share my early thoughts on Channel 4 and reinforce our support for creativity across the UK, as well as our vital role as a public service broadcaster in a rapidly-changing world.”

The theme of this year’s is convention is ‘Where TV Meets Digital’ and the programme will explore how traditional storytelling and emerging technologies such as AI are converging to shape the future of the UK’s screen industries.

Accompanying the main event is the Skills Summit, which offers practical sessions and workshops aimed at both freelancers and emerging creatives.

Other speakers include drama writers Sir Phil Redmond and Jimmy McGovern; Oscar-winning documentary director Asif Kapadia; Jimmy McGovern; Quay Street Productions chief executive Nicola Shindler and Hat Trick Productions managing director Jimmy Mulville.

The convention takes place at Camp and Furnace in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, with Skills Summit sessions held at Boxpark.
