Share the Next Step is a career progression scheme which supports experienced producers to step up to series producer as part of a job-share. It is being run by Share My Telly Job (SMTJ) in partnership with The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) and with support from Screenskills UK.
In addition to providing training and mentoring support, STNS also arranges funding of up to £10,000 (per 6 month contract) from the commissioning broadcaster to cover the cost of an extra 26 days of series producer time.
All our pairs come with a huge amount of experience and combined skills which strengthen their partnership. They have all undertaken leadership and management training, budgeting & scheduling training, post production and technology training and specialist job-share training and they all have access to series producer mentors and job-share support throughout the length of the contract.
The first two pairs of job-sharing SPs on the scheme are now well underway on their shows and the feedback from them, their employers, their teams and the broadcasters has been brilliant! - So brilliant, in fact, that the first pair have been immediately re-hired for a second SP role at the same company!
Over the next 3-6 months, SMTJ will place at least 6 more pairs into SP roles. As Share the Next Step is a pilot programme, all placements must be completed by September 2023 - So, if you have an SP position becoming available soon, get in touch!
We have pairs covering a broad range of unscripted genres, including Specialist Factual, Factual, Factual Entertainment, Entertainment and Reality.
The extra day each week gives our SP’s time to hire more diversely, to properly support and nurture their teams, and to handover with each other thoroughly - allowing for more time to make big decisions in a more considered way.
As the employer, you will get a Series Producer partnership who work for 6 days each week (over five), crossing over on one of those days.
By hiring them, you will be supporting freelancers in progressing their careers at a time when research shows that experienced talent, particularly women, mothers and carers are leaving the industry at an unprecedented rate - often citing a lack of work-life balance. The opportunity to work a 3-day week can address that and help to retain them.
