Roughcut TV drama head Marianna Abbotts, who ushered in the scripted indie's push into the genre, has left the company after seven years.

The former Expectation development producer joined Roughcut in the same role in 2019 and became its first drama head in 2023.

She steered Roughcut dramas Coma, for Channel 5, and Little Disasters for Paramount+ [main picture].

Roughcut - best known for comedies such as Channel 4's Big Boys and BBC3's Things I Should Have Done - is now recruiting for her successor, who will lead a team that includes executive producer Charlotte Essex, development producer Claire Kaloy and development editor Issy Franklin.

The indie's ambition is to lean into commercial high-end drama that builds on the international profile of Little Disasters.

Abbotts has also held development roles at STV Productions and Sony Pictures.
