For the past year, I have worked as a researcher across Firecracker and Mentorn on the RAD Training Scheme. This was a fantastic Glasgow based scheme, where I was based predominantly in development but over the course of 10 months had the freedom to work on a number of diverse productions. Not only was this brilliant for my skillset, where I got to work with high profile talent, during intimate interviews and on set, but I also got to fine-tune skills working with contribs; fulfil tricky casting briefs and dabble in archive research.

Having a solid grounding in production fed nicely into my role as a development researcher, where on a day-to-day basis I brainstormed with my team; wrote catchy treatments, used my editing skills to cut sizzles and attended 1-1’s meetings with commissioners. I became very confident at contacting talent, arranging meetings with them, which I attended both in Glasgow and London.

In addition to my role as a researcher, I like to speak up as a young person of diverse background working in the industry and was pleased to talk about my experience working in Glasgow to aid the city’s bid for Creative City of the year. I was funded by Channel 4 to attend the convention in Cardiff and after seeing four fantastic bids, I am so pleased to announce that Glasgow won! Most recently, I was asked to speak on a panel for E4 on ‘What Young Audience’s Want’ at the Edinburgh TV Festival and you can watch that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv6w4CH0G6Y.

Outside of work, I am constantly furthering my skills and passion for storytelling. I do this by creating and editing my YouTube content; working with illustrators, making Instagram content and keeping up with social media trends. I am also working on a short film with my fellow TRC talent schemers, with an aim to produce short doc about.

At this point in my career, I’d like to get as much experience as possible across different genres, with a focus on learning more about camera operating. Read Less
