Based in South Wales and primarily working in adventure, travel and wildlife documentaries alongside specialist factual, I am an award-winning BBC HEFAT trained lighting cameraman and drone pilot, working on projects across the world. I work across both Blue Chip and Sync programming, using a variety of different techniques encompassing long lens, aerial, gimbal, and more traditional sync image capture to film some of the worlds most exciting wildlife and most prolific presenters. I have extensive experience across almost all genres of broadcast camerawork and am supported by a host of advanced qualifications for challenging shoots. I further specialise in mountain and cold climates, and any other remote or hazardous environment requiring awkward or technical access and movement. I have vast experience ranging from 5000m Above Sea Level down to 2KM deep underground and have worked under almost all climatic conditions across high altitude, desert, rainforest, savannah, coastal and arctic environments.
With a previous background of over 6 years of experience camera assisting and second operating for some of the biggest and most accomplished names in the business, and 2 years spent as a technician at leading facilities company ‘Films @ 59', I have proved myself to be well suited to the areas of natural history, adventure and travel programming. I have extensive credits with a variety of major networks, broadcasters and indies including recent shows such as Avalanche, One Strange Rock, Expedition Volcano, Planet Earth 2, The Hunt and Operation Gold Rush. At home in the expedition environment and a keen adventure sports athlete, I am comfortable enough in any situation that I can focus 100% on getting the best possible shots using technology in the most creative ways.
Alongside being a freelance cameraperson, I run one of the UK’s longest standing professional and certified drone filming and surveying companies, and can bring my vast experience working with UAV and remote controlled camera heads to any production.
I am confident with all current broadcast formats, cameras and the associated grip equipment including specialist technologies such as aerial filming, high speed, thermal imaging, PSC 3D, stabilisation and motion control. I regularly attend training courses to keep current with the most modern technologies. I hold many complimentary qualifications and endorsements including pre-hospital trauma life support, swift-water rescue, off road driving, rope access and rigging for vertical environments and various useful access skills for staying alive and thriving in the worlds harshest environments.
I hold 2 valid passports and am up to date with all vaccinations.
I am a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a member of the Guild of Television Cameramen and the International Association of Wildlife Filmmakers.

I've worked with Ryan on two month long 'adventure' shoots. Firstly, following the C19th Yukon gold rush trail over snow covered mountains and across freezing lakes and rivers before ending up digging for gold on a remote campsite. Secondly, filming a group of scientists monitoring the activity of the world's largest lava lake inside the volcano, Nyiragongo, on the eastern border of the DRC - an FCO 'red' zone. Both these shoots were physically demanding with a range of climbing, ski-ing & outdoor skills needed - Ryan didn't disappoint.
On both occasions, Ryan proved himself an invaluable member of the team. He applies himself to the task in hand with verve and is happy with the camera on the shoulder or legs. He knows his kit inside out and is especially good at natural history filming but can also turn his hand to observational doc style. Coupled with that, he's a dab hand with a drone and isn't precious about getting his hands dirty with go pros! He is also happy to self direct and is charming with presenters.
I'd have him along on the next shoot in a flash.
