About Me
Ben worked as a Producer-Director on Five Mistakes that Caught a Killer, a Channel 5 series re-examining notorious murder cases. He made the episode about the murder of Sarah Payne.
I was the Series Producer-Director for the four-part series and, as I was also making one of the films myself, I needed imaginative and resourceful PDs who could both work as self-starters whilst at the same time make films to a very specific creative, journalistic and visual brief.
Ben more that fulfilled this challenging role. He found new witnesses who had never spoken before and produced a polished and visually striking film. i wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. By the way, according to his Talent Manager profile, he describes himself as an Edit Producer on the series. Ben, you were way more than that!
Ben is a terrific producer. Highly organised and motivated. A very talented self shooter who can get the pictures - but also tell a good story, developing narrative. He is budget conscious and wathes the bottom line. Ben can work alone or has the personality to fit into a team - or direct others. I have no hesitation in recommending him.
Ben is a great team player, with a strong visual sense, great technical knowledge and always delivers the goods, which is why we keep having him back and back on Cactus projects. Please don't employ him as I want him to be free to work with us all the time!
Ben Algar was shooting PD on Plan it, Build it. Plan it, Build it was a ten part daytime series for BBC1 following people applying for planning permission, and the planners who dealt with their applications. We had a very small team and we covered applications handled by five councils around the country. Our two units had to work very hard, be flexible, film a huge amount of high quality material and manage the material to ensure nothing was lost. Ben was an excellent member of our team. He is a great self-shooter, he listens to the brief and tailors his questions and footage to fit the brief, he's thoughtful and considerate with contributors, he acts on his own initiative and he's a pleasure to have around. Ben is fully committed to the projects he works on, he's not a moaner, and he's experienced when it comes to compliance and trust issues. I am a big fan.
