About Me

Hi, my name's Charlie Kinross and I'm a highly experienced shooting Producer / Director.
I've worked all over the world on a huge variety of shows. I've just finished 18 months travelling around the UK on Countryfile - writing, shooting FS7 and my drone and editing my stories for the BBC Primetime show.

A PD with a cinematographer's eye; Charlie is a must have for any series looking for high production values. On location his warm character enables him to get everybody onside, even in the toughest conditions. Charlie is also an asset in the edit suite where he dusts off his English degree to write efficiently, making every line count. One of the best people in the industry.

Mark Beech (Countryfile, Series Editor)

Charlie knows exactly what's required to make a story work in the edit. As an ex camera man who has shot on film he has a good eye and shoots to a high standard, and as a PD who has plenty of edits under his belt he knows how to spot, follow and produce a story. He appreciates that factual narratives can be unpredictable and is not afraid to tear up the plan and improvise when necessary. He's a good guy to work with and a safe pair of hands.

Myles Judd

Charlie never disappoints. Not only does he have quality camera skills and raises the bar with his creativity style and flair but is also one of the most robust solid PD’s I’ve ever met. Highly intelligent, you can throw him into any situation and he will deliver. A chameleon that adapts to all environments and programmes whether it’s following a one off sensitive story solo or with a large team for an off grid survival adventure series. Great with contributors, sympathetic, inquisitive and professional through and through.

Keeley Van Dyke

Charlie came on board a long running series to help shoot important scenes towards the end of the production. He produced well thought out and considered beats, nicely crafted with all the content the edit needed. He's hard working, dedicated and a good communicator.

Richard Cooke

Charlie is a delight to work with. He works extremely well with contributors, helping to bring out the best in them in front of the camera every time. He is thorough in his approach to each shoot, every story is clear and well thought out. The footage he captures tells the story and comes together very easily in the edit. He always communicates extremely well with the office during and after each shoot ensuring that all aspects of production know exactly what is going on.

Martyn Bon

Charlie shot some of our very complicated and emotive nightmare neighbour stories. He got the best out of some very difficult contributors and managed to talk both sides on board on several occasions and overall produced some excellent stories. Shooting wise Charlie is very creative and raised the bar in the overall look of the programme.

Sarah Rest

When a series comes up, Charlie is one of those PDs you call first. He captures beautiful rushes and knows how to keep a contributor onside. A very experienced and reliable head for UK and overseas filming.

Mark Beech

Charlie's knowledge and enthusiasm for history, his superb shooting and his warmth with contributors were all great assets for us on Heir Hunters. He delivered some really cracking stories and he brings an energy and creative flair that shine through in his rushes.

John Widdup

Don't be fooled by this dry witted well-spoken Big Bear. Charlie is one of the most sensitive guys I have had the pleasure to work with. His excellent shooting skills combined with his passion for storytelling and ability to produce a story makes him top of any recruiting list.

Keeley Van Dyke Series Producer

Charlie PD'd our recent All 4 Shorts Series with infectious enthusiasm and calm measured sensitivity to the subject matter. He was organised and committed and made both the production and post production process run on time and on brief. We are all really pleased with the outcome and look forward to working with Charlie again in the near future.

Ged Cleugh - Head of Film & TV, Spectrecom Films

Charlie worked with us on our Dog Hotel series for UKTV. It was a 10 week shoot that involved filming with assorted four-legged friends in a very busy doggy hotel. He was not only brilliant with the scores of pups he had to contend with each day but also with the human contributors - and our presenters!

JULIE HEATHCOTE

Charlie is a fearless and imaginative DoP. The first time we met he was waiting at Farringdon Tube reading a copy of "American Pastoral" by Phillip Roth - one of my favourite novels. We hit it off immediately and embarked on a few days of shooting on the London Underground in what proved to be a mutually thrilling experience with incredible results. As a director it's important for me to work with a DoP who speaks the same language - a language beyond technical. We're stealing moments from reality that ordinarily get overlooked - so, a poetic understanding of both the grand and the banal is essential. Charlie's got that in spades - which frees him up to love what he does. I'll end with this: We were shooting a short on a tight schedule and we needed a shot on a bus. We didn't have permission so I told Charlie to jump on a 38 with our actor to knock off what we needed while I made my way to the next location. He turned to me and said - "...What? And miss out on all the fun? C'mon, get on the bus..." So I did. It's the stuff that dreams are made of.

Grant Fulton, Freelance Creative Director ITN Productions

Charlie is an exceptional cameraman with an eye for detail, framing, building sequences and producing work that can get you in and out of any edit. He is one of the few cameramen I have worked with that have been able to not only get fantastic footage but also record audio and light to a high degree. I have left him to work autonomously, within a team and as a director and he has strived in all circumstances. His ability to film is paralleled by his aptitude for producing and interviewing, gaining the trust of contributors, working with difficult and sensitive subject matter and at times finding editorial gems that would have gone undiscovered. He also has a unique ability to find a humorous angle where appropriate and treat a serious topic with the utmost respect.

I would highly recommend Charlie as a shooting PD/cameraman/DOP.

Nina Stevens Associate Producer Parkinson Productions

Charlie operated a 5D and sound for us on a crucial day filming a self-funded pilot. He was committed to our project as if he had been involved with it for weeks, and not just since call time. He never flagged and contributed useful ideas throughout a long day. Our contributors enjoyed having him around as did we and his rushes were strong. We have since cut a sizzle from Charlie's material which has been well received. Great shooter and one of the team from the 'off'.
