Production Coordinator, Channel 4 News

  • Description

    As a Production Coordinator in a fast-paced TV news environment, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of daily news output. This includes managing production logistics, coordinating staff and freelance rosters, and supporting editorial and technical teams. You will play a central role in maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring the newsroom is resourced effectively and compliantly.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Staffing & Roster Coordination
    Create, publish, and maintain rotas for staff and freelance teams across the newsroom
    Monitor and record hours worked, absences, and shift changes
    Ensure compliance with ITN’s Working Periods policy and working time regulations
    Book freelancers in line with finance, tax, and employment status guidelines
    Authorise and track weekly freelance cost sheets, including justification and budget tracking
    Liaise with department heads to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill coverage
    Build and maintain training schedules and long-term roster plans
    Apply HR policies consistently to staffing issues and escalate where necessary

    Production Logistics
    Compose and distribute production schedules and call sheets
    Attend and contribute to daily production meetings
    Organise travel, accommodation, work permits, visas, and insurance for crews and contributors
    Source and manage equipment and supplies for shoots and studio operations
    Support the setup of pre-recorded material in the studio gallery

    Administrative Support
    Type, edit, and distribute scripts and running orders
    Prepare shot lists, logs, and post-production paperwork
    Manage accounts, expenses, and supplier relationships

    Key Requirements:
    Experience in a production coordination role, ideally in a live news or broadcast environment
    Strong understanding of staff scheduling, freelance booking, and resource planning
    Experience using roster software (e.g. Dayforce, ScheduALL) and Microsoft Office
    Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills
    Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
    Calm, proactive, and adaptable under pressure
    Financial awareness and ability to manage cost implications of staffing decisions
    Confident in negotiating shift changes and managing last-minute cover
