    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
    BBC Studios’ Documentary Unit is seeking an Assistant Producer to join the Development team creating current affairs, special project and arts films for The One Show. This is a full time role, based in Salford, with an on site requirement of two days per week.

You’ll have an extensive contact book, meet tight deadlines, and bring resilience, alongside a clear interest in current affairs, entertainment, arts and human-interest stories. You may also be required to step up as Development Producer when needed.#


    YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
    Using strong editorial judgement, the Assistant Producer will generate and pitch original, achievable ideas and treatments each week, delivering popular journalism under tight deadlines and budgets. This role requires you to be solution focused, and proactive. The role involves researching and simplifying complex stories, fact checking, casting contributors, writing briefs, supporting junior team members, and assisting the Development Producer as needed.


    YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    You’ll be rigorous in fact checking, experienced in writing treatments, and able to support filmmakers through handover into production. You’ll work confidently within BBC Editorial Policies, maintaining accuracy and stamina in a fast turnaround environment. A strong understanding of The One Show audience, excellent writing skills, and the ability to handle complex topics with tact and sound editorial judgement are essential.


    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
    You’ll have experience pitching short form current affairs VT ideas, with strong editorial judgement and the ability to build trust with contributors. You’ll work collaboratively in a fast paced, pressurised environment, bringing strong organisation, adaptability and a proactive, can do attitude. A clear understanding of the BBC’s diverse audiences and a passion for factual storytelling are essential.
