After a short career as an engineer, I spent two years re-training at the National Film and Television School and gained an MA in Documentary Direction.

Since graduating I have produced, directed and shot films for UK and international broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4 and Sky. In 2006, I was shortlisted for a Grierson Award in the Best Debut Film category and also nominated for an RTS award for my film My Brother My Enemy. My other films include 'Divorce: Sharia Style' (Ch4), which followed Muslim women going through divorce; 'Osama bin Everywhere' (Ch4) looking at the lives of people named Osama across the world post 9/11, which was selected for the Sheffield Documentary film festival 2009 and nominated for a BANFF award 2009. In 2014 I made film looking at the practice of polygamy by British Muslims for Channel 4. I have made 6 films for the Our World strand, as well as a film in 2019 about blasphemy in Pakistan, 'Banged Up For Blasphemy' for Channel 4's Unreported World Strand.

In 2009 I won a competition to make his first fiction feature with Vertigo films called the State and in 2016 I also directed a short fiction film called The Prisoner funded by BFI. Read Less
